All our motorhomes meet the highest standards from the Erwin Hymer Group brands and are manufactured in Europe. We focus on using Dethleffs and Sunlight as our main rental brands. Most of the McRent vehicles are guaranteed under 2 years old, however often even less as we aim to replace our fleet after every season to keep them sharp and new for our customers to enjoy. Please be aware that vehicles of the EcoLine category can be up to 5 years old.
Anyone wanting to drive the motorhome will need a current and full car licence and be a minimum of 25 years old with two years of driving experience. There are no maximum age limits in place to rent one of our motorhomes. If an overseas license is used, please also have your passport / ID and the international driving permit (IDP) handy for inspection.
Restricted licence holders are not permitted to drive our motorhomes. Upon prior approval and request it might be possible to accept drivers under 25. Please reach out to the station to verify eligibility and special conditions required prior to the collection date.
Any additional driver(s) over 25 can be registered free of charge. The hirer signing the rental contract agrees to remain liable for the actions of the additional driver(s) while on the wheel.

The motorhome is handed to you in a professionally groomed condition inside and out. For your return, we ask you to do a basic tidy up on the inside, so that our team of Motorhome Grooming Champions can prepare the vehicle in time for the next rental. For this, please wipe all interior surfaces, sweep the floor, ensure that the waste and grey water tank and the toilet cassette compartment is emptied and clean and the motorhome is generally in a tidy condition.
A wash of the exterior is not required.
If the vehicle is not returned in an acceptable condition on the day of drop-off, a cleaning fee may apply (please check the current price list).
The handover process will take a maximum of 30 minutes to complete, if you are arriving at the agreed pick-up time. Please note that any change in times (earlier or later arrivals) may cause waiting time as the team might be attending to other guests at the time of your arrival. For international guests we recommend to cover short driving distances only for the first day. Take your time to ensure you are fully confident with the use of the vehicle and that you have been provided with all the relevant information to set you off to a smooth and stress free motorhome holiday.

To familiarise yourself with the special conditions when driving on local roads, we strongly recommend you first visit (linkBlank)Drive Safe”:http://www.drivesafe.org.nz/

Technical Questions
McRents large selection of different floor plans offer from a small van for two people up to six berth large-scale alcove vehicle. There is the right vehicle for everyone.
All our vehicles come equipped with the newest generation of Fiat 9-speed automatic transmissions for a comfortable and easy drive. Tow bars are generally not fitted and therefore unavailable.
All our motorhomes come equipped with two full 9 kg gas bottles. As part of the drop off process, we ask you to refill both bottles to avoid having to pay the empty gas bottle fee on drop off. We strongly recommend to refill the bottles provided with the vehicle, rather than swapping them as you might be given a gas bottle in exchange, that does not fit the vehicle’s gas bottle compartment well. Refills are available at most BP, G.A.S. and Caltex petrol stations. Cost vary depending on location, but average around $40 for a refill. Depending on the number of people travelling and the frequency and use of the vehicle’s cooking and heating facilities, a full gas bottle should last approx. 7 days.
Fresh water refills are available at most fully equipped campgrounds and holiday parks as well as at hundreds of waste water disposal stations country-wide. The cost for refill of fresh water is generally covered by the overnight fees at the campground. Public refill facilities are available free of charge.
All our vehicles are equipped with the newest generation, fuel saving and powerful 2.3L turbo diesel engine made by Fiat.
The technically permissible maximum laden mass or total permissible weight, is a value set by the manufacturer which the vehicle may not exceed. The mass in running order consists of the basic motorhome with standard equipment plus a standard weight for the driver. The respective load capacity per motorhome is also calculated from this, which can be found in the vehicle registration document. We also recommend that you weigh the laden motorhome on a non-automatic scale with all the passengers before each journey to comply with the technically permissible maximum mass.
Financial
McRent calculates the prices per day. The day of pick up and the day of drop off are counted as one day.
We work with flex prices for the calculation. This means our daily rental rates may change at any time, depending on supply and demand.
If you receive a binding quotation, this rental price is valid until the specified time written in the quotation. If you request a new offer, the new daily rates will be taken.
On the day of collection we will put a security block in place for the remaining excess on your rental contract depending on the insurance excess ($7500/$1000/$500/NIL) selected. This is processed through a VISA or Mastercard credit or debit card of your choice. If the amount required exceeds your credit/debit card limit, you are welcome to use multiple cards to cover the security deposit amount required. Please note that we cannot accept cash deposit payments.
The Hirer may request free date amendments to a confirmed booking up to 7 days prior to the date of the agreed commencement of the rental period subject to the Rental Company having alternative capacity and booking dates available. The rental rates are based on the current price list valid at the time of the change, unless the hire rate for the alternative dates decreases, in which case the original rental rate will apply. Amendments within 7 days prior to commencement of the rental period may be treated by the Rental Company as per the following cancellation terms.
Cancellation fees:
Up to the commencement of the rental, the deposit is non-refundable.
No refund of unused days for early returns or late collections is applicable.
(see general Terms and Conditions)

McRent has been operating in the industry since 2004, having claimed the top spot as the biggest motorhome rental provider in Europe and beyond. This creates a solid basis to be the reliable supplier you can trust to work with when it comes to making payments to us for an upcoming holiday. We have opened our doors in New Zealand in 2017 and have since gone from strength to strength. Even in the current challenging environment, we are firmly keeping our eye on expansion and growth in the coming years and we can’t wait to have you join us in this wonderful journey.
We are fully prepared to steer through another lockdown scenario, if there needs to be another one… keeping you, our McRent Friends at the forefront of our minds and thoughts. We understand that situations vary, so talk to us and we will
do our best to work around your current circumstances. Remember, we’re in this together!
If you have booked through a Third Party Provider (e.g. a Tour Operator), you will have to get in-touch with them directly for changes and cancellations. Please note that their amendment and cancellation terms can vary from the guidelines we have set up for customers that have booked directly with us.
Instead of a refund, we offer full flexibility of changing the dates, without limiting the validity of the credit we are offering.
There is also no requirement to rebook for the same or greater booking value and the funds are transferable to another person, which means even a long weekend away in the coming months/year will allow for the voucher to be used up easily.
While we try and keep the rates the same or similar for the alternative dates, this is not always possible.
For example, due to a seasonal date change. Please contact us on [email protected] / +64 27 3497499) and we will check what level of pricing we can offer you for the alternative dates.
In the event that you need to return your vehicle early due to Covid 19 level restrictions, we will provide you with a credit voucher for the unused days that you can use for your future travel with us. A refund won’t be an option.
While our offices will need to be closed at Alert Level 3 and 4, we will do our best to coordinate a contactless drop-off with anyone still out there exploring. Please be aware that we will only be able to fully finalise your booking when the office reopens.
